What Is a Marian Community?

A Marian Community is people of faith that view Mary as the model of discipleship. They believe their lives have been sustained and nurtured by the graces of God poured out through Mary's intercession. They believe that praying and supporting one another enriches their faith and strengthens their ability in carrying out God's will in their lives.

What Exactly Is Marian Devotion?

Marian devotion springs from the realization through Scripture and universal experience that the Mother of Jesus will be with us every day of our lives guiding us to her Son and away from her adversary.

For Roman Catholics, Marian devotions are intercessions to God through the meditation of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The acts of devotions focusing on Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mary, have received ecclesiastical support and are widely followed by Catholics at large.

"To Jesus through Mary" according to historic Faith this is the path to salvation ordained by the Trinity.

Who We Are

We are a Private Association of the Christian Faithful that was approved by the Archdiocese of Boston on June 21, 2004 (see official letter of Archbishop). Our community members devote themselves to a common traditional practice of public piety and private devotion. We believe we advance the practice of lay spirituality by the good example of leading a prayerful and spiritual life, by evangelization, Eucharistic adoration, daily mass, reconciliation and by specific means of Marian devotion.

How Were We Founded?

Sister Margaret Catherine Sims (a Sister of St. Joseph of the Archdiocese of Boston), while sitting in Chapel, was asked by God the Father to form a lay community. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Sister Margaret said "Yes" and founded a community of people dedicated to bring the presence of Jesus to life within themselves and others through Mary. In the beginning this community was called Bethany, later to become known as a Marian Community.

Where We Gather

Members of this Marian Community join together weekly for prayer and worship on the grounds of Betania II located in Medway, Massachusetts at 154 Summer Street. Together we seek the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We strive to experience God's mercy and love, encouraging others to commit their lives to Jesus through Mary.
